Every week has its fashion missteps, but this one was particularly weird. We expected to be blindsided by the glitter and glare of the approaching holiday season and instead were hit with bizarre patterns, puzzling clothing combos and more than one celeb looking totally unrecognizable.
Take Bella Thorne for example… or is this Billie Eilish? For some reason, Bella channeled the angsty teen grunge look Billie’s known for to the point of looking like she was wearing a Halloween costume. Sorry, Bella—you’re a month too late.
Other celebs didn’t fare much better. Tyra Banks took some inspo from one of Harrison Ford’s most iconic characters with her brown suit, hat and leather gloves; Cara Delevingne looked like she was planning to do a red carpet workout; and John Legend opted to go shirtless on a late night show (but not in the way you think).
Check out all that strangeness and more below in this edition of Worst Looks of the Week.
Is this Bella Thorne or Billie Eilish?
Karen GillanIf Karen’s look were a plant, it would require immediate pruning. The off-the-shoulder neckline is flattering, and the colour is becoming on the Scottish actor, but the puff sleeves provide a droopiness that the look could do without. Getty Images
John LegendHmm, something seems to be missing under John Legend’s dapper Christmassy suit. The professional crooner, for some reason, chose to appear sans shirt on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. We get you’re this year’s Sexiest Man Alive, John, but how did Chrissy not roast you alive for this?Getty Images
Tyra BanksTyra does bold. And a brown pantsuit with a flat-brim fedora, over a black bra is bold. But the energy of the look skews a little too adventurous (especially the gloves, which look to be of the batting cage variety) and not glam enough for an event like the American Music Awards. Bella ThorneBella has been perfecting that “effortlessly cool grunge” look for a while now, but with the green hair we’re getting distinct Billie Eilish vibes. Unfortunately, thigh-high leather boots, fishnet top and shiny cross jewelry, isn’t really hitting the mark for us. Getty Images
KhalidKhalid took the old split-it-down-the-middle approach to a bout of indecision at the tailor. The result is this blue and white suit, which fits impeccably but still makes the American singer look like some sort of off-putting vanilla and blueberry confection. Getty Images
Heidi KlumWell, hello heels—can we join your shoe club, Heidi? Less is more with these ultra-trendy translucent shoes, but the feather bubble dress is a little too much on the bottom and a little too little on the top.Getty Images
CiaraThis silhouette enhancing mesh blazer is hitting all the right notes, but did Ciara bike to the American Music Awards? We understand that bike shorts are one of this year’s hottest trends, but at an awards show? Hmmm.Getty Images
Ella BalinskaElla’s topknot is polished and perfect, and it’s difficult to criticize such a cut-to-fit tuxedo. We just hope the Charlie’s Angels actress didn’t get mistaken for the wait staff at the gala dinner she’s attending.Getty Images
Noah CyrusWhoa, is Noah also taking inspiration from the Billie? Is she our new fashion icon? We have to say, if that’s the case, high fashion is about to get a whole lot more comfortable. Getty Images
Cara DelevingneIf we lived in a mad world with no rules when it comes to fashion, these high-rise fishnet tights may have gotten a thumbs up from the fashion police, but that’s just not the case. Cara, you’re a badass, but roll down those tights.Getty Images
Courtney LoveCourtney is showing she knows exactly which unexpected colours flatter her, but did she stop and consider the fit? The glittery gold is mesmerizing, but the same cannot be said about the drapey dress bottom. Getty Images
Camila CabelloAnyone else picking up on some Practical Magic witch vibes from this outfit? Contrasting the black with another shade (pick a shade, any shade!) of choker or bra might have dug this look out of the graveyard. Getty Images
Carly Rae JepsenArriving at the re-opening of Louis Vuitton's Sydney flagship store, Carly’s LV babydoll dress is a little underwhelming for a brand that’s so distinguished. How about that bag, though—it’s giving us star eyes.Getty Images
Naomi CampbellNaomi’s heart is in the right place at the opening of her Fashion For Relief Pop-Up; however, with those denim bottoms, she ended up being slightly outshone by her more formally dressed attendees.Getty Images
Dua LipaTalk about an outfit being tossed together. Not only is the form of the white dress not particularly flattering, but the top and bottom elements clash hard. We want to see Dua wear something that matches the calibre of her vocals!Getty Images
Millie Bobby BrownAt only 15, Millie is sure pulling off the mature & studious look. Seriously, she could be a grad student here; we almost didn’t recognize her. Our only note for the young star is that those pointy-toe booties look more “night on the town” than “UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.”Getty Images
Elsa PatakyBlame it on the combination of colour blocking, metals and patterns on Elsa’s outfit, or the explosively geometric backdrop behind her, but there’s something dizzying about this photo. It may not be her fault, but we’re overwhelmed. Getty Images
