It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for: The royal baby has arrived! And it’s a girl! A girl!

That’s right, despite our collective crossing of fingers and toes, the little princess Leia was not born on May the fourth (sigh… the memes would have been glorious), but rather, early in the morning on May 2, 2015.

While the official announcement from the palace came via the traditional large-easel-tiny-notice posted at the gates (pictured above), Kensington hit social media hard during the Duchess’ seemingly short labour to keep royal fans and subjects abreast of the news.

Things got going around 6 a.m. London-time.

Not sure that anyone really expected the Duchess to hop on a horse or for Will to fly her across town R.A.F. style, but just in case, the palace made sure to let everyone know how Kate made her way to the hospital.

Once she got there, things moved pretty quickly.

Of course, Will was there for the whole thing.

And by all accounts, the whole gang are doing just fine.

Hope St. Mary’s stocked up on “If you think I’m cute you should see my uncle” onesies.

Next up, Prince George.

…and big brother George!
