On Sunday night, only a few days into the new year, Oprah Winfrey gave a stirring and emotional speech that will surely go down as one of the biggest moments of 2018. While accepting the Cecil B. DeMille award at the Golden Globes, Winfrey schooled the audience in attendance, and at home watching on TV, on everything from race relations in the United States, to the history of women not being believed in cases of sexual assault, to why she hopes to inspire a new generation of women to live in a world free from fear of assault of harassment. The Golden Globes were Oprah’s night and we were just there to sit and watch in awe.
It’s safe to say that just about everyone loved Winfrey’s speech. Celebrities tweeted about it. Golden Globe nominees tweeted about it. We all tweeted about it. Winfrey became a trending topic for the evening and she even made an impact at the White House.
In a surprising move, Ivanka Trump tweeted her praise for Oprah’s speech, calling it “empowering and inspiring.” Including a link to the full speech, Ivanka tweeted “Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP.”

To recap, Ivanka of the White House Trumps really liked Oprah Winfrey’s speech about holding men accountable for sexual assault and abuse. Mmmkay.
One thing that wasn’t surprising in this very odd Twitter occurrence were the responses. Many people were upset by Ivanka’s lack of awareness.
This is the most hypocritical, clueless statement in her regrettable time in the WH. Your father has a trail of victims and supported Roy Moore, Ivanka. YOU are indeed part of the problem Ivanka. #complicit

Some understandably thought it was a joke.
Ivanka Trump tweeted Times Up and I honestly thought it was a fake account at first. How can one person have such little self awareness?

Actor Alyssa Milano suggested that Ivanka donate to the Time’s Up movement in her father Donald’s name.
Great! You can make a lofty donation to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund that is available to support your father’s accusers.https://t.co/A8HCVa715v

One Twitter user noted that Ivanka shouldn’t be responsible for her father’s personal actions, but is responsible for his public actions since she works for him.
I don’t think anyone is asking her to bear responsibility for her Dad’s abuse of women. We are asking her to not chime in on this like she cares about the abuse of women while supporting her AssaulterinChief Dad. You can’t join a movement while actively working against it.

And so forth.
Do not even attempt to ride on Oprah’s coattails. You have done nothing to empower women and have zero understanding of the plight of everyday women. Empowering your father is the antithesis of what Oprah was standing for.

Many users tried to point out to Ivanka that she was in fact complicit in her father’s wrongdoings.
#TimesUp for your father! 19 women have come forward, why are you not hearing their truth. Your father supported an accused child molester and called his accusers liars. You are #Complicit in allowing men in power to act so reprehensibly. #MeToo

Others, like Chrissy Teigen, had less constructive criticism.
ew go away

Overall, people weren’t impressed. Opinion.
Opinion: Ivanka Trump, stop the “you go, girl” Oprah cheerleading. You’re complicit. https://t.co/TzvdX9fQze
