Not one bit of Jennifer Lopez looks 48; not her face, not her booty and certainly not her six-pack abs. She’s even got the Instagram game of a millennial or younger. So how does the I’m Real singer keep it so youthful? It’s all in your head…or, in her head, at least.
In a recent cover expose for Harper’s Bazaar, Lopez revealed that she is heavily invested in positive thinking, repeating a collection of motivating expressions multiple times a day and even going so far as to decorate items in her house with statements of affirmation such as “no limits but the sky,” “live your dream,” and one of her personal favourites, “I am youthful and timeless.”
“Affirmations are so important,” she told the publication. “I am youthful and timeless. I tell myself that every day, a few times a day. It sounds like clichéd bullshit, but it’s not: Age is all in your mind.”
It’s not exactly scientific, but if it works for her, then all the power, right? And it does seem to be working. J.Lo has been on top for decades and shows no sign of letting up.
Of course, it’s not solely positive thinking that keeps the 48-year-old star looking remarkably like her 24-year-old self. That would be wishful thinking. According to an interview she did with People in 2014, Lopez also makes sure to sleep well, drink lots of water, eat her veggies and sweat it out in various workouts including dance and circuit training, basically doing as the ageless beauties that came before her before her like Jane Fonda and Dame Helen Mirren have done.
In fact, Fonda is something of an idol of Lopez’. “Look at Jane Fonda…She really leans in to the big fundamentals, like getting her rest, eight to 10 hours,” she told Bazaar. “She doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke. She lives a very clean life.”
And that’s been Lopez’ MO as well. That and loads of positive vibes.
