Buckle your seat belts: if you’re a Broadway fan like us, then this edition of “Carpool Karaoke” will knock you out. ICYDK, James Corden will be hosting the Tony Awards this weekend because, honestly, who better to host the Tonys than a Tony winner? Just ask Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman. So James is in NYC, gearing up for his hosting gig, where he enlisted four of the biggest names to “help” him get to the Beacon Theatre for rehearsals.
BTW, we’re not kidding when we say “biggest.” Like Lin-Miguel Miranda, the man behind Hamilton and up for a slew of awards this year. Then there’s Shuffle Along‘s Audra McDonald, who TV fans may recognize from Private Practice, but she’s also got six Tonys on her mantle, the most performance wins of any other actor. Ever. And completing the glorious back seat are She Loves Me‘s Jane Krakowski and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who stars in Fully Committed.
And they were all fully committed. There’s the glorious rapping from Hamilton; Miranda might want to consider giving Corden a part in his musical, maybe the understudy of an understudy, because James killed it. Then there were awwws before the quintet launched into Rent‘s “Seasons of Love” then moved onto Jersey Boys‘ “Can’t Take My Eye Off You” (though you could tell Lin-Miguel would rather sing it Lauryn Hill-style than Frankie Valli).
But it’s their incredible, improvised ending of “One More Day” from Les Misérables that SLAYS EVERYTHING. We can all die happy now.
The 70th Annual Tony Awards air Sunday, June 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV.
