After all the money Fifty Shades of Grey has raked in, it should come as no surprise that its stars, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, want significant increases for the sequel. Of course, Fifty Shades Darker has yet to be ordered but considering the first film cost $40 million to make and has brought in over $150 million domestically in a month (worldwide it’s made over $525 million), we think it’s safe to say it’s going to get the green light.
Dornan and Johnson only made $250,000 (plus tiered box-office bonuses, according to The Hollywood Reporter) and while we use the term “only” loosely, that’s a pittance given what the movie has made thus far. And let’s be serious, as soon as this is available to purchase/download/rent and watch in the privacy of homes everywhere, we’re talking a billion-dollar franchise here. So it’s completely understandable that after everything the actors have done and gone through to make and promote this film, they would want a bigger slab of the porno pie. But will Universal pay up, or will the studio be in the market for a new Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele?
We’re sure that would please many. While Johnson may have won over many doubters and haters, Dornan’s portrayal left plenty to be desired (so we heard) so it wouldn’t be super-shocking if he was replaced. But don’t worry all you purists out there who don’t like change, we think Jamie and Dakota will get the seven-figure increases they deserve.
