Just because you live in a safe neighbourhood, tucked away on a cul-de-sac or family-friendly street, doesn’t guarantee you and your home will be free from break-ins. Just ask Jamie Oliver, who chased down a burglar after he tried to invade his London home. Perhaps he didn’t know whose house he was attempting to rob, but he clearly messed with the wrong dude. Jamie works with knives for a living!

But the chef wasn’t wielding any weapons when he caught the burglar. Rather, he used his super-speed. According to the Mirror, Oliver was at home with his wife, Jools, and their five children when he caught the guy trying to break in. The man got spooked and left, but Jamie chased him down.

“Jamie was alerted to something wrong when he heard a massive commotion coming from his neighbour’s house,” a source told the paper. “He was set to investigate but before he knew it, he was face to face with the burglar himself as he tried to smash his way into his house as well.”

The source continued: “Jamie went absolutely mad and sprinted after the man down the street before catching up with him and pinning him down to the floor. He was then joined by his driver and a handful of neighbours who helped him hold down the burglar until police arrived to arrest him.”

This coincides with a report from Scotland Yard. “At 7.13pm on Tuesday, 4th of September, police were called to reports of an aggressive male attempting to gain entry to residential addresses in N6,” a spokesman said in a statement. “The male was apprehended by members of the public and was subsequently detained by police. He was taken to a North London police station where he remains at this time. Officers from Central North Command Unit are investigating.”

This wasn’t the thief’s first attempt in the high-end Highgate neighbourhood; he reportedly attempted to break into other residences including Kate Moss‘ home.

“It was just a brave, selfless thing to do,” said one neighbour. “Despite the clearly very hairy situation, Jamie was laughing and joking with the coppers saying they’d done a great job to arrive so quickly after the 999 call. Everyone is really thankful for his quick thinking and courage.”

Another insider added, “As well as protecting his family, he is very community spirited and cares just as much for the welfare of his neighbours as well. That’s probably why he leapt into action.”

How scary that must have been for Jamie and Jools, especially since their kids were home during the terrifying incident. There are so many worse outcomes the Oliver family could’ve been dealing with. Instead, Jamie will forever be known as the block’s badass. And he cooks. He’s basically perfect.
