Only a story revolving around one of the world’s most famous fashion designers could attract A-List talent like this. Jeremy Irons is the latest actor to join the upcoming Ridley Scott film Gucci, AKA Lady Gaga’s next big gig following her theatrical debut alongside Bradley Cooper in A Star is Born. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Irons has been cast in the fashion-focused crime drama as Maurizio Gucci’s father, Rodolfo Gucci (Robert De Niro had been rumoured for the gig, but that obviously fell through). Irons joins previously announced actors Adam Driver, who stars as Maurizio Gucci, and Lady Gaga, who plays Maurizio’s ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani. According to the publication, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney are also in talks for roles in the film.Gucci is based on the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. It’s said to trace the murder of the iconic fashion trailblazer Maurizio, a murder that Patrizia was convicted of plotting after she discovered he’d had an affair. Maurizio, who was the grandson of Guccio Gucci, was once the head of the Gucci fashion house before he died in 1995. He was 46 years old when he was gunned down by a hitman in Milan. The movie, which includes those events, is currently scheduled to hit theatres in November 2021.The gig is one of the latest for Gaga, who also recently signed up to star alongside Brad Pitt in the equally star-studded heist drama Bullet Train. Meanwhile, Irons is currently filming the adaptation of Munich for Netflix, on which he plays British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. The 72-year-old also recently shot scenes for Zach Snyder’s upcoming recut of Justice League (he plays Batman's butler Alfred Pennyworth), and he’s coming off an Emmy nod for his gig on the buzzworthy 2019 limited series Watchmen.Of course to many fans Jeremy Irons will always be the original voice of Scar in The Lion King. And to Canadian fans he’s still Rodrigo Borgia from the Canadian co-production The Borgias. Regardless of how you know him, this latest gig seems appropriate for the Oscar and Emmy-winning actor, who is noted for his own love of fashion. He often chooses his own wardrobe for his roles, and he is typically one of the best-dressed gentlemen on red carpets. “You know when you’ve got the right look,” Irons once told Men’s Journal, “because you stop thinking about it.”In other words, Gucci’s got nothing on him.[video_embed id='2081644']Before you go: Get ready for Lady Gaga and Brad Pitt in ‘Bullet Train’[/video_embed]
