Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels, who is best known as one of the trainers on The Biggest Loser and the person we would be most scared to work out with, sat down with Women’s Health this week to discuss various health topics, including the latest diet craze. When asked about her thoughts on the Keto Diet, Michaels didn’t hold back. “Why would anybody think this is a good idea?” Actually, for Michaels, that is holding back.
The Keto Diet is a low-carb, high fat diet that is an offshoot of Atkins. By eliminating carbs, your body is put into ketosis, a metabolic state that helps burn fat more efficiently. According to some studies, the Keto Diet has benefits that include weight loss, treating diabetes, cancer, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s. But Michaels isn’t buying it.
“You know what we need to do? All fat and animal protein!’” Michaels joked. “No! Bad plan. For a million reasons. Your cells, your macro molecules, are literally made up of protein, fat, carbohydrates, nucleic acids. When you do not eat one of the three macro nutrients — those three things I just mentioned — you’re starving your cells. Those macro nutrients serve a very important purpose for your overall health and well being. Each and every one of them,” said Michaels. “Long story short, avoid the Keto Diet.”
At least, we think that’s what she said. Her arms and abs are very distracting. We’ll eat whatever she tells us to eat.
Michaels may not be a fan of the new diet trend, but many people are loving the Keto lifestyle. They’re easy to find, because anyone doing Keto usually opens every conversation with the topic.
In 2018, Keto was the most searched diet online, with a number of celebrities following the low-carb diet, including Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Megan Fox, Katie Couric, Tim Tebow, Vanessa Hudgens, Adrianna Lima, Halle Berry, and Montell Williams.

Plus, we can’t forget MTV star Vinny Guadagnino, who showed millions of viewers each week on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation how to maintain a Keto Diet even after a night at the club. Essentially, you order a pizza and just eat the cheese and pepperoni. Drunk today, abs tomorrow!
