It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Bono.

First, the U2 front-man announced he suffers from glaucoma, explaining why he’s rocked sunglasses at night for the past 20 years. Then, the door to his private jet flew off mid-flight, spewing his luggage across the skies and into the hands of some lucky German citizens down below. And if things couldn’t get any worse, just as the band was scheduled to settle in to a week-long musical residency on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Bono crashed his bike in Central Park and cancelled their appearances.

Good thing he’s got friends like Jimmy Fallon and The Roots.

With no time to arrange for an alternate guest, Fallon resorted to filling in for the band himself. Donning Bono’s cap, glasses, guitar and harmonica, the hastily-assembled tribute band rocked out to the real band’s classic hit “Desire”, with Fallon even getting down and dirty on the harmonica and emulating Bono’s trademark I’m-gonna-sing-close-up-in-to-the-camera stance.

Although we think Fallon did a kick-ass job, we imagine Bono’s thinking there’s nothing better than the real thing.

Tune in to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon at 11:30 PM ET on CTV 2.
