Seriously, is there anything this woman is just okay at or does she have to slay literally everything she does? Jennifer Lopez attended the CFDA Fashion Awards (a.k.a. the Oscars of Fashion) Monday night where she accepted the Fashion Icon Award for “her longstanding and global impact on fashion.” Designer Tom Ford presented the singer/actress/dancer/fashionista/mom with the honour on behalf of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
“When you realize the power of fashion at such a young age, even subconsciously you know it’s going to be a big part of your life,” she said in her acceptance speech. “I think we all realize the power fashion has right from the beginning.” She went on to thank all the designers, stylists and artists who have helped her craft her image over the years.
Another big winner of the night was Barbie (yes, that Barbie), who was honoured with the Board of Directors’ Tribute Award for her impact on fashion over the past 60 years. The prolific doll posed on her own mini pink carpet and thanked the board via Instagram (she also posed with her good friend JLo’s doll).
Jen and Barbie weren’t the only fabulously dressed ladies Monday night. Check out the best looks below.
JLo cements icon status at CFDA Fashion Awards
Jennifer LopezJLo was winning everything Monday night, from the Icon Award to the ab game, and this custom Ralph Lauren look hits every beat (much like JLo herself). It incorporates her love of big skirts with her equally pervasive love of showing off that bod. Brava. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
The Olsen TwinsMary-Kate and Ashley aren’t winning any awards for pattern or colour, but they did win the one for Accessory Designer of the Year. It’s their fifth win at the CFDA Awards for their fashion label, The Row (which is, coincidentally, also where their outfits are from). Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Anna WintourFashion’s matriarch had us summer ready with the bold print on her tiered dress. It’s very Anna and we’re very here for it. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Gigi HadidGigi Hadid was playing with texture in this layered Off-White ensemble. With slacks, a skirt, a shirt, a blazer and a sash, Gigi was also pushing the boundaries of how many articles of clothing one person can wear at a given time. She attended the event with Off-White designer Virgil Abloh.Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Bella HadidConsidering her sister’s look, Bella’s sequined and feathered black Michael Kors cocktail dress is relatively tame. It takes a lot to make a sparkly, feathery look seem safe, but next to Gigi (who was doing THE MOST) the classic look just isn’t as dramatic as it would be on a different carpet. Winnie HarlowIf Bella and Winnie say feathers are happening this season, feathers are happening this season. Winnie walked the pink carpet in this deep purple Christian Siriano which featured eight (by our count) feather boa tendrils. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Shailene WoodleyThere are two things we can rely on Shailene Woodley for: to teach us something health-related every time she opens her mouth and to wear a suit-adjacent look on the red carpet. The actress is staying totally on-brand with this Jonathan Simkhai one-sleeve suitdress and, of course, it’s working for her. That bright pink eye to match the carpet is a great touch. Lili ReinhartLooks like Lili was taking notes from Shailene by showing up in her own version of a tux dress. She walked the carpet with designer Wes Gordon, who was also the brains behind the look.Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Ashley GrahamModel Ashley Graham is channeling that “arriving at my third husband’s funeral who I may or may not have had a hand in murdering” energy with this elegant Christian Siriano look. On Instagram Graham wrote, “feeling like I just walked out of a fabulous Alfred Hitchcock film, darling!” But we stand by our assessment. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Laura HarrierThe Spider-Man actress attended the awards in this fun tulle polka-dot Khaite Evening gown. It’s a cute look and we’re very into the matching lip and mani. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Bebe RexhaBebe was decked out in sparkly Angelys Balek along with quite a few other ladies. As per usual, we like what she’s wearing but we’re much more interested in how she uses that blunt bob. Put Bebe down as summer #HairGoals. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
CiaraCiara was looking exactly like the goddess she is in custom Vera Wang. The outfit consists of a two-piece crop top and bottoms combo under a sheer cut-out dress. Vera attended the awards alongside Ciara and called her a lady who “defies all definitions of hard work, passion, conscience, kindness and positivism!” Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Brooke ShieldsBrooke traded in her characteristic sleek locks for 80s-inspired corkscrew curls to coordinate with her electric Sachin & Babi jumpsuit. She’s pushing boundaries and looking great doing it. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Bernadette PetersAh, that’s who Brooke was reminding us of! Broadway icon Bernadette Peters! The corkscrew curl look is her signature and it’s hard to find the singer not in sparkles on a carpet. Bernadette was at the ceremony to present the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement award to her good friend costume designer Bob Mackie. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Beanie FeldsteinThe Lady Bird and Booksmart actress is making her mark in the film industry and now in the fashion industry too. She attended the event in this embroidered vintage-inspired Kate Spade number. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Heidi KlumHeidi Klum was serving us everything we expect from her—short skirt, sleek hair, smoky eye. She walked the carpet arm-in-arm with designer Gilles Mendel wearing his J. Mendel label. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Antoni PorowskiOn the opposite end of the spectrum, Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski was celebrating the beginning of Pride Month in the best way we can imagine—with rainbow fashion. On Insta, he called the Sies Marjan look his “silk technicolor dream.” Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
Yara ShahidiGrown-ish’s Yara Shahidi is all about bucking trends so it’s no surprise that she opted for an out-of-the-box dress pant and sleeveless top look instead of your typical dress or even menswear ensemble. The lewk was brought to us by Monse Maison and Yara’s “hair art” was created by “Hair MacGyver” Nikki Nelms. The actress was there to honour Barbie’s commitment to reflecting diversity and building up young women. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images
