U.S. election day is here, and it seems like everyone is throwing their last-minute support behind their favourite candidates. And in case anyone was still wondering, John Legend is Team Biden/Harris all the way. He also has zero time for the recent group of rappers who have expressed support for the other side.Speaking at a democratic rally in Philadelphia on November 2, Legend urged potential voters to cast their ballots Biden’s way despite what performers like Lil Wayne or Ice Cube may have said about Donald Trump being the better candidate for taxes or police reform. “Some of your former favourite rappers have been taken in by these lies. I think they even founded a new supergroup, it’s called the Sunken Place,” he said from the stage while sitting at a piano. “But Trump’s Platinum Plan for Black folks is nothing but fool’s gold, because you can’t bank on a word he says,” the 41-year-old continued. “Ask the students of Trump University. Ask all of the contractors he stiffed. Ask people his charity was supposed to help before it was shut down for being a fraud. Ask all the Black and Brown Americans who are dying from this virus and losing their jobs under his watch.”Last week Lil Wayne shared his support for Trump, tweeting out a photo of himself holding his thumbs up next to the world leader. “Just had a great meeting with Donald Trump,” he wrote. “Besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.”

Legend, who was at one point joined onstage by his wife Chrissy Teigen, wasn’t done there though. During his five-minute speech the performer also reminded the crowd that just last week another Black man, Walter Wallace Jr., lost his life to police violence. “A man with mental health needs, who like so many other Americans wasn’t able to get the care he needed,” Legend said. “So yes, we’ve lost a lot. But Philadelphia, what we haven’t lost is our ability to decide what happens next.During the November 3 election, Pennsylvania is considered one of the major states to watch because it holds 20 electoral college votes. (U.S. voters indirectly elect the president through the Electoral College, which has 538 electors. A president needs 270 for a majority.) Some pundits believe that Trump could emerge as an early victor in the state while Biden could slowly overtake him in the days to come as mail-in ballots are counted. In that case, experts believe Trump may take to Twitter and claim mail fraud and raise other kinds of smoke while trying to push the matter to the courts.“Remember the other side would not be trying so hard to stop you from voting if they weren't so scared of what your vote could do,” Legend continued to the crowd. “Don't let them take away your vote. Don't let them take away your voice. Philadelphia we have the power to put an end to this nightmare. If we win this state, then Donald Trump will be gone. And Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States. This is more than an election. As Joe says, it's a battle for the soul of our nation. And together with our voices and with our votes, we will win.”[video_embed id='2068840']Before you go: How artists like Lady Gaga and John Legend are supporting presidential candidates[/video_embed]
