Mariah Carey may be the queen of Christmas songs (and viral videos announcing their return), but John Legend is giving Cupid a run for his money as the new king of Valentine’s Day. In a Chrissy Teigen-approved social media post, the EGOT winner showed All of Him in a hilarious shot-by-shot spoof of the video that Carey posted last November, complete with rose petals, red satin pyjamas, and a matching face mask.In the OG Carey post, the superstar can be seen going to bed on October 31 in a Tina Turner costume and waking up on November 1 in Christmas pyjamas. Santa calls on the phone, Carey’s record-breaking holiday anthem “All I Want For Christmas Is You” plays in the background, and Carey sings, “It’s tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime” into the speaker before letting out a shout of joy. The video has nabbed nearly 19 million views since its release on Twitter, sparking joy for holiday lovers and dread for those who are hoping for a new holiday anthem already. In his post, Legend recreates the entire experience frame-for-frame, but with a Casanova twist. In his version he goes to bed on 11:59 p.m. on January 31 (apparently he was skipping New Year’s Eve festivities), still in his Christmas attire. Then he wakes up on February 1 to a phone call from Cupid, and his new single, “Conversations in the Dark” plays in the background. As the Sexiest Man Alive does. “Am I doing this right, Queen @mariahcarey?” he captions the post.So far Carey hasn’t responded to the video, which is closing in on a million views since Legend posted it on February 4, but Kerry Washington is definitely a fan.“When does the A Legendary Valentine’s Day album come out?” she wrote with a laugh-cry emoji on Instagram. As for Teigen? It seems like she was equally surprised by Legend’s video, and proving once again that these two are #RelationshipGoals she shared it on Twitter with her classic Teigen honesty."Oh my god is this why you didn't wanna do it in our own bedroom and let me sleep through it what the fuck is this oh my god oh my god baaaahahahahahahha oh my god," she wrote in a retweet. Meanwhile, she also replied to Legend’s original post to call out some of the Easter eggs eagle-eyed fans can spot in the 40-second bit. Like their three-year-old daughter Luna singing about dead people or the Black Cupid photo on his phone. As far as promotional ploys go, this one is Legend-ary. It’s been nearly a month since the singer’s latest album, Conversations in The Dark, dropped, and this is definitely a good way to remind fans out there that’s it’s not only available to download, but it’s also potentially the V-Day anthem we all need.Your move, Mariah.
