It was an epic weekend for
Grease fans, especially those who like to go all out, get decked out in costumes from the movie and are more than happy to hand-jive their way around Florida. That's where three
Grease Sing-A-Longs took place and those who attended the shows in West Palm Beach, Tampa or Jacksonville got quite the treat: Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson themselves, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.It's been more than 41 years since
Grease was the word and not only were some fans wearing leather jackets, slicked hair and poodle skirts but so, too, were Travolta and Newton-John. The former on-screen couple first reunited on Friday at the Coral Sky Amphitheater where they took part in a Q&A and, of course, the sing-along. John and Olivia
tested out their a cappella skills, with Travolta thrilling the audience by singing "Sandy," followed by Newton-John delivering the teeniest bit of "Hopelessly Devoted to You." Her voice is still so great, we could listen to her all day. Swoon. But the best part came afterwards, when JT and a bunch of greased-up former T-Birds and greasers gave the crowd some "Greased Lightnin'."This wasn't John and Olivia's first reunion, though. The former co-stars got together in 2018 for a 40th anniversary screening of the flick. At the time, Newton-John told
People, "We did something life-changing, making that film. [At the premiere] you got the feeling from the energy that something was happening. It was a huge response. I feel grateful to be a part of that and to have worked with him. We've stayed friends ever since."It was also recently announced that
Grease is getting a
spinoff musical series called
Grease: Rydell High, which will debut on HBO Max and follow some new and familiar faces around the high school that Danny, Sandy, Rizzo and Kenickie once ruled. There's no word on whether Travolta or Newton-John would be reprising their roles in some capacity but considering how amped up they still get for those summer nights, fans can definitely hope.
Newton-John
posted the same pic of her in Sandy's yellow cardigan, matching skirt and white button-up and John in all-black, captioning her pic with, "First time in costume since we made the movie ! So excited!!"John and Olivia not only co-starred in
Grease but four years later, they made the 1983 flick,
Two of a Kind. It didn't fare as well but these two proved then and now that they still hold a special place in their hearts for one another.Yup. They're still the ones that we want. And Stud, you don't need to tell us about it. We know, Grease is still the word.
