Remember that cringe-worthy video that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard released on the Internet last month? We know, you’ve probably tried to erase it from your brain. But let us refresh your memory (we’re also #sorrynotsorry): Depp and Heard are awkwardly sitting side-by-side in front of a camera, stoic faces, reading from a scripted apology to the Australian government, all for failing to declare their pooches before bringing them into the country.
Australia doesn’t put up with animal smuggling nonsense (and for good reason, really), Johnny! Not even if you’re an A-list celeb who makes pirate garb and smoky black eyeliner look sexy.
While the 52-year-old star tried putting his acting skills to use in the first video, turns out he might not have been as sorry as he originally let on. (Could ya tell?)
At a press conference in the UK for his latest flick Alice Through the Looking Glass, Depp poked fun at himself, saying, “I really would like to … I will do this everywhere I go. I would really like to apologize for not smuggling my dogs into England, because it would have been a bad thing to do.”
Smirking while he spoke, Depp trailed off, ending his subtle jab with, “Because the Australians … Though chipper, and … you know.”
Better leave it there, Johnny. We don’t want you and Amber to be banned from Australia for the rest of your lives. Because, if there’s anything we’ve learned from your trial last month, they do not take things lightly down under.
