Joseph Gordon-Levitt is ready to dance his cares away and let the music play. The actor is set to produce and star in a remake of Fraggle Rock.
“The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on Sesame Street, and then on Fraggle Rock,” JGL told Variety. “Jim Henson’s characters make you laugh and sing, but they’re also layered, surprising and wise. From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I’ve never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood.” Frisky. Yes, you are, Joe.
Fraggle Rock debuted in 1983 and was co-produced by CBC, Henson Associates, HBO and Television South. The series followed funny little creatures — Fraggles, Doozers and Grogs — that lived in a world beyond a hole in a wall of a man’s home. Will Gordon-Levitt be that man?
Back in 2005, a Fraggle Rock movie was in development. The Weinstein Company signed on as distributors but in 2011 the Weinsteins’ deal with Henson expired and the project was shelved. Until now. That story was going to take the characters outside their home in Fraggle Rock and into our world, what they considered outer space. We’re guessing if Gordon-Levitt isn’t the man, he’ll be one of the “aliens.” Whatever the case, Joe acts, he sings, he dances. We can’t imagine anyone more perfect to play alongside the Fraggle gang.
