Judi Dench hasn’t seen ‘Cats,’ but she’s jazzed about her nomination for Worst Supporting Actress

'Cats' leads this year's Razzie Awards, honouring the worst of cinematic under-achievements, with 8 nominations.

Some movies are a hit, and others are… well, a flop. Can’t win em’ all, as they say, and the 2019 big-screen rendition of Cats was certainly no exception.After critics panned the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, the film earned a disappointing 18% rating from audiences on opening weekend, which meant after that, nobody was lining up to see it.Even one of the film’s marquee stars, Dame Judi Dench is no exception.Stopping by BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday, Dench explained ”I've only seen a picture of myself [from the film]… I thought I was playing a kind of, you know, mangier cat who didn't have much fur. Cats is up for an award. Multiple awards, in fact — only, not the good kind, per say.The Golden Raspberry Awards, better known as the Razzie Awards, is a parody award show honoring the worst of cinematic under-achievement. Cats, along with Rambo: Last Blood and A Madea Family Funeral are leading this year’s nominations with 8 each, respectively earning designations as ‘the best’ of ‘the worst’.Oscar winner, Ms. Dench is up for Worst Supporting Actress. Don’t worry, though, when was asked what she thought about her nod, she replied, "Oh, am I? That would be good! As far as I know, that's a first!"Also, did we mention Dench’s co-star Jason Derulo? The musician and his “CGI-Neutered Bulge” also got some Razzie attention, with a nomination for “Worst Screen Combo”.
