Julia Michaels is a Grammy-nominated multiplatinum singer and songwriter who’s worked with some of music’s biggest names, including Britney Spears, Shawn Mendes, Gwen Stefani and Justin Bieber. Now she’s out with her most intimate album to date. It’s called Inner Monologue Part I and it’s being hailed as her most intimate work to date. It’s easy to see why—the album is full of songs about love, heartbreak, anxiety and depression.
Julia started out in the industry as a songwriter and it wasn’t until she wrote her megahit, “Issues”, that she transitioned from behind-the-scenes onto the stage.
In the video clip above, Julia tells us why she waited until that song to make that transition.
“There was one point where I had done a song with somebody else and I was actually supposed to be a feature on said song,” she told us. “It ended up not working out because they’re like, ‘You’re not an artist’. I remember crying in the bathroom and was super sad and I didn’t understand why.”
From there, Julia’s songwriting partner helped her realize she had been denying herself something because she was scared of it.
And the rest is history!
Now, Julia is on the road with Pink (ticket info here), but this isn’t her first time touring with a major industry heavyweight. She’s also been on the road with Shawn Mendes, Maroon 5 and Keith Urban. So, we had to ask—what’s her most embarrassing tour moment? You’ll have to watch the video clip above to find out.
