The last thing you’d associate with Julianne Moore is poor acting. But that’s exactly what Turkey’s tourism board had to say about her. Julianne Moore. OSCAR WINNER JULIANNE MOORE.
Moore was set to be the face of Turkey through promotional tourism ads, having travelled extensively with her parents as a child. In the spots, she reminisced about her childhood travels to the country. But it was all cut short when she was fired by the country’s Culture and Tourism Ministry, who felt the film she shot wasn’t up to snuff.
Turkey’s Hürriyet Daily News reports that execs were put off by Moore’s “poor acting” and demanded the actress reshoot it. Jules declined so they dropped her from the project.
Moore was already at a disadvantage as many prominent figures in Turkey reportedly weren’t fans of the actress representing their country, saying she has a “depressive persona.”
Moore’s ad, which ironically was filmed in L.A. last year, was expected to air beginning in February 2014. Once the project folded, four photographers were out of work and the ad agency in charge of the film lost a reported $1.5 million in revenue.
As for Julianne, she’s keeping busy filming Maggie’s Plan. She will also be seen later this year in Freeheld and in the highly anticipated final installment, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. You had your chance, Turkey.
