When singer Azealia Banks threw a bunch of racist (and homophobic) tweets at former-One Directioner Zayn Malik (calling him a “curry scented bitch,” among other things), she didn’t think she’d have a whole army of curry-scented bitches after her.

Banks’ ridiculous and unnecessary remarks came as no surprise to many—after all, she’s done this kind of thing before—but what is amazing is that an army of South Asian women (with some help from comedian Jus Reign) hit back with a full-fledged counter-attack strategically repurposing #curryscentedbitch to celebrate their culture.

For people of South Asian descent, it’s nothing new to be bullied about smelling like curry, and Jus Reign fairly pointed out that curry is freaking delicious, so why is that even considered an insult nowadays?

Of course, while he was spitting curry fire, South Asian women were on the front lines, dropping bomb photos of themselves looking like the proud curry scented bitches that they are.

Once Reign caught wind of this particularly strategic attack, he supported the ranks in turn, and that’s when the movement really took form.

Thanks to the awesome hashtag and backlash against Banks, Twitter was forced to kick the controversial, racist singer off the platform, and she has since been booted from multiple shows as well.

Must be the power of the curry.
