We’ve got some bad news for all the Beliebers out there hoping to one day pose for a selfie with their favourite singer: It’s just not going to happen any more.

Even though Justin Bieber has been pretty great about posing for pics with fans over the years, he’s come to the conclusion that he’s had enough and can no longer do it—even if those fans are the same ones paying thousands of dollars for backstage passes. And to be honest, we kind of get it.

Because here’s the thing: Bieber isn’t saying that he will no longer acknowledge fans or stop talking to them, he just doesn’t want to feel like he’s in a zoo any longer. He says he’s at a point in his life where people walking up to him and just wanting a picture with him without treating him like a human is too energy-zapping. And he let his fans know as much Tuesday on his Instagram account.

To be fair, the guy probably gets asked for a LOT of photos on the daily. Sure, it may come with the territory, but selfies have become the new autograph when it comes to celebs. And when someone just wants a picture but has no interest in connecting with you as a person—well, we get how that could make someone feel.

That hasn’t stopped the naysayers though, especially since Bieber did take time to pose for a pic with Wayne Gretzky‘s daughter. However, one would assume this is a different case since he’s posing for a fellow Canadian icon’s kin, right?

As the reporter points out in the video, below, disappointing The Great One could be a big Canadian faux pas. Plus, we would assume Gretzky arranged a little more to that meet-and-greet than a simple photo.

At least Bieber has taken some time out to further explain his decision to the naysayers out there, which shows that he does still care about his fans.

Braekess you are so right btw your Instagram name is fire. Years ago it was impossible to even take a picture at anytime not everyone was accessible to a camera now everyone has a camera phone and Now it’s just a different thing. If you think setting boundaries is being a douche I’m the biggest douche around but I think it’s smart and will be the only way I last. I wanna enjoy life and not be a slave to the world and their demands of what they think I need to do!! I love the fact that I am able to make people happy but cmon if you truly were in my position you would understand how tiring it is ( boo hoo Justin get over it) I’m going to keep making decisions I feel are fit for my growth and no human being will make me feel bad for it.

Amen to that.
