Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick are at the Cannes Film Festival, promoting their upcoming animated movie Trolls. He voices Branch, she voices Poppy and we can only hope there’s a lot of singing involved, considering the musical talents of Timberlake and Kendrick, who proved just how good they sound together.

The stars serenaded the audience on Wednesday with an emotional rendition of Cyndi Lauper‘s “True Colors.” They seemed a touch nervous to share their duet debut, and started off with some jokes.

“We are Anna and Garfunkel,” Timberlake introduced themselves. “OK, we are going to give this a go, but you guys have to be nice.”

Kendrick, who has sung in numerous movies and was nominated for her first Tony Award in 1998 when she was just 12, added: “We’re just friends here, right? This isn’t like a big deal … we’re just hanging out in our living room.”

The crowd laughed and cheered but once JT and Anna opened their mouths, they shut up real quick. Because their performance? Was nothing short of magical and if you didn’t get chills, then you need to listen to them again.

Their performance was gorgeous and haunting but we have to admit, we would’ve liked to hear Anna do more than just back up JT. She’s got the skills, Justin, let her show them off! Could you imagine the album these two could put out? They could do ballads, pop songs, bluesy numbers, anything really. Their cute little intro also proved that they’ve got a bit of chemistry going on so anytime they want to star in a movie together — and not just their voices — we think that would totally work. Movies and music worlds, watch out!

Trolls doesn’t hit theatres until November but the soundtrack comes out in September. That being said, the soundtrack marked Timberlake’s return to music. He released his latest single, “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” on May 6. Think of it as this year’s “Happy.” Sorry, Pharrell, but we need a new song to get stuck in our heads.
