If you were alive in 2001—and even if you weren't—you probably remember the infamous couples' denim-on-denim ensemble that Justin Timberlake, then-member of mega-famous boy band NSYNC, and JT's girlfriend at the time, pop princess Britney Spears, wore to the 2001 American Music Awards. There were multiple shades of medium-wash blue denim, asymmetrical seams, pockets, patches, chains, frayed hems, inexplicable-but-deliberate tears and, perhaps worst of all, a matching, fully denim cowboy hat. Ho boy.[caption id="attachment_4876054" align="alignleft" width="960"]Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears denim 2001 AMA looks Getty Images[/caption]What could the reasoning be for such ensembles, other than it was the early aughts? It's been a mystery for near two decades, but JT is finally shining some light on what was going on when he and Britney chose to appear in public in the ghastly Canadian tuxedos. Apparently, they were blinded by love.Speaking on Lance Bass's The Daily Popcast podcast recently, Justin said while it was certainly a lewk, he doesn't really regret it."Look man, you do a lot of things when you’re young and in love, man, that’s what you do," he said.Justin Timberlake may have reinvented himself as a dapper dude with his suited The 20/20 Experience album and then again as a rustic woodsy-type with Man of the Woods, but it sounds like he still stands by a lot of what he wore back in his boy-band days. Lance wanted to know what looks do bring Timerlake some sartorial regret, and while most of us would struggle to narrow it down to the worst offenders, JT could barely even come up with one."One look that I remember—one I look back on as a funny one or an interesting one was, but I still kinda dug it—was this sort of Sgt. Pepper-inspired outfit that we we wore when we were opening up on The Velvet Rope Tour," he said. Now, the documentation is sketchy, but he could be referring to this or any of these.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Dance crew pays tribute to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’[/video_embed]JT also addressed his bandana phase, admitting, "True confession: I think I just started wearing bandanas because I couldn’t figure out what the hell to do with my hair." Fair enough. Those curls had a life of their own.Maybe we should all take a page from the JT Book of Life and Love and live with no regrets.[video_embed id='1926995']BEFORE YOU GO: Rita Wilson shows off her rap skills in ‘quarantine stir crazy’ video[/video_embed]
