Lillie Stewart has been knitting socks for the better part of her 92 years on Earth. She makes them for her doctors, friends, family, and even prime ministers. Jean Chrétien received some when he was in office, and most recently, a pair of her handmade socks landed in the hands of Justin Trudeau (as seen in the video above).

Lillie and her husband Jarvis have long been supporters of the Liberal Party, and even like outfitting their local MP Bill Casey with her hand-knit socks, which is how she managed to get this latest pair to Trudeau. Trudeau was so thrilled by the gift he invited Casey to his office to get a photo of them being presented. That 8×10 is now framed and sitting in Lillie’s home, along with a hand written note from the Prime Minister thanking her for her generosity.

We have to admit, knitting isn’t our strong suit, but if homemade socks are the way to Trudeau’s heart, then sign us up for the next class! We’ll knit and purl ourselves all the way to Ottawa.
