Wham! Pow! Crash! Justin Trudeau is punching his way onto the cover of new Marvel comic book, set to hit store shelves on Aug. 31.
Clad in boxing gear and looking ready for a fight, Canada’s prime minister is pictured surrounded by members of Alpha Flight–basically the Canadian version of the X-Men. Which means, for the first time in four years, the mutants of the north will rise again.

Originally created as backstory to Wolverine’s character, Alpha Flight eventually earned a place in its own Marvel series. And rest assured, the cast of characters who appear in the background possess quite a variety of unique, super cool powers. There’s Puck (left of Trudeau), a dwarf bouncer from Saskatoon with incredible strength and acrobatic abilities. Aurora (right of Trudeau) is a mutant from Montreal who possess super speed, light generation and molecular acceleration. Sasquatch–the big guy in the back–is a Hulk-like character from British Columbia.
Then, of course, there’s Iron Man, looking off angrily.
The comic book’s storyline will involve a Marvel universe divided, where Iron Man is pitted against Captain Marvel while Alpha Flight is stuck in the middle. That’s why they look for guidance from their “old boss”, Justin Trudeau (apparently, there will also be a “mysterious connection” revealed between Tony Stark and the Canadian prime minister).
Unfortunately, this is only an alternative cover, meaning it will be different from the one you see in stores.
This isn’t actually the first time a Trudeau has been featured in a Marvel comic either. Justin’s actually following in the footsteps of his father, who appeared in 1979’s Volume 120 of The Uncanny X-Men.
You can pre-order Civil War II: Choosing Sides #5 from your local comic book retailer or on Marvel’s website.
