Kacey Musgraves is getting in the holiday spirit – again! The country crossover singer previously released her first Christmas album A Very Kacey Christmas in 2016 and is pulling out the mistletoe once again, this time releasing both an album and a televised holiday special.
The Grammy winner has just announced The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show, which is set to debut November 29 on Amazon Prime. Speaking about the project in a press release, Musgraves said that the new special is unlike anything she’s done before. “What started as the small seed of an idea one night over a year ago has turned into something I’m so proud of,” said Musgraves, who has assembled an incredible list of featured artists for the special. “Some truly brilliant comedic and musical guests are featured in the show—as well as my own Grandma. My vision was to bring my old Christmas album to life visually and create a modern and fashionable, fresh take on a classic format. It’s a nostalgic, Wes Anderson-inspired reimagining of the holidays. It’s heartfelt, funny, and most of all, real. I can’t wait to finally share.”
The new Christmas special features Musgraves teaming up once again with fellow Texan Leon Bridges, who is back to perform the original song “Present Without A Bow” that he and Musgraves sang on her 2016 Christmas album. The country singer shared the star-studded lineup for her special with holiday-themed Polaroids on her Instagram account, announcing singers Camila Cabello, Lana Del Rey and Troye Sivan. Zooey Deschanel appears in the new special — no surprise considering Deschanel’s affinity for holiday tunes (the actor has released two Christmas albums with her band She and Him). Comedian Fred Armisen and model Kendall Jenner are both scheduled to appear, as well as late night talk show host and sometimes actor/singer James Corden.
Schitt’s Creek creator and actor Dan Levy will narrate the special, with the new trailer showing Musgraves leaving candy canes in the makeup chairs of all her guests, while dropping a lump of coal onto Levy’s space.
Musgraves has also made the new special a family affair with the inclusion of her Nana, who fans will recognize from Kacey’s song “Slow Burn,” with the line “Grandma cried when I pierced my nose.” Making Nana a TV star will hopefully make up for the whole nose piercing thing.
Musgraves’ new special is arriving at the tail end of an already huge 2019. The country singer has been touring as part of her Oh, What A World: Tour and took home four Grammys this year, including Album of the Year for her fourth studio album Golden Hour. Most recently, Musgraves reunited on stage with her former tourmate Harry Styles while performing in Nashville.
