Kanye surprised Kim with a hologram of her late father for her 40th

People had some strong opinions about how Kim Kardashian chose to spend her 40^th birthday (on a private island with her klosest krew). But now that fans also know what Kanye West gifted his reality star wife for the occasion, the internet is practically breaking.On October 29, Kim revealed that Kanye gifted her a hologram of her late father, Robert Kardashian. She shared a post on Twitter announcing the gift to the world before adding a video of the whole hologram experience. “I can’t even describe what this meant to me and my sisters, my brother, my mom and closest friends to experience together,” she wrote. “Thank you so much Kanye for this memory that will last a lifetime. Here’s a more close up view to see the incredible detail.”

The hologram is incredible, to be sure. In the video, Kim’s dad wishes her a happy birthday and promises that he’s looking over her every day. “Sometimes I drop hints that I am around like when you hear someone make a big peeface or when you make a big peeface,” the hologram says before dancing to The Edsels “Rama Lama Ding Dong.” Later, he also praises Kim’s decision to follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer, and reveals that she is an incredible mother who “married the most, most, most, most, MOST genius man in the whole world, Kanye West.”While many fans approved of the video and shared how much they would give to see a hologram of their own late fathers, others still have a sour taste from Islandgate. Especially given how much money the trip, and now the hologram, must have cost. As many pointed out in the comments, there are so many who have been hit really hard financially and emotionally by what 2020 has doled out so far. For them, Kim sharing the video just felt like another tone-deaf move.

I have no issue with Kanye giving Kim Kardashian a hologram of her dead dad for her birthday. What really seemed to sit with people most though is just how narcissistic Kim’s “most, most, most, most, MOST genius husband” might actually be. While some defended Kanye as joking in order to bring some levity to an otherwise heartfelt message, others were just not having it given Kanye’s history.
