Think getting red-carpet worthy makeup involves a plethora of brushes, creams and powders? Think again. Thanks to this make-up tutorial from Victoria Secret model – and Taylor Swift bestie – Karlie Kloss, we’re feeling pretty confident that we can get our own carpet-ready looks in a matter of minutes, with minimal muss and fuss.
In her latest post to her YouTube channel Klossy, Kloss invites her friend and makeup artist Sir John (who also happens to be Beyoncé’s brush man) to show everyone how to achieve her look from the MET gala in May. Sure that may seem like a while ago, but we’d say it’s pretty relevant to this month and all of the holiday parties galore.
Anyhow, as it turns out, all you need is five simple steps to achieve beauty perfection. The key? Enhancing what your mamma gave you, according to Sir Jay. All in 20 minutes or less. Observe in the video above and in the steps below:
1. The Brows
Since they frame your face, consider them your statement piece. If you have fine brows, be sure to use a light pencil and feather them out. Nothing too heavy, just to add a little substance. Then, if you happen to have an oily face, be sure to add a bit of powder to hold them in place.
2. The Eyes
In the video above, Kloss has a bit of a cat eye going on, and we’re totally digging it. To get that look, start with some taupe shadow (no need to prime). Then, apply liner directly onto the lines, and pull it out with your finger. According to Sir John, you’ll be fine with five-to-seven lines to achieve that thick look. Be sure to do a small line under the lash as well, and then finish with a coat of mascara to the lashes.
3. Luminous Skin
Less is more, according to Sir John. Be sure to add just a touch of foundation to make that complexion pop, and then be sure to conceal key areas only: under the eyes, the t-zone, and any blemishes that you need to go away.
No need to go Kardashian crazy here. Use that same taupe colour and create a soft line from the inner ear to the jawline in a soft, slow taper. Then, “kiss” the high points of your cheek with an illuminator to really make those cheek bones pop.
Just tap a little bit of colour onto your lower lip, then kiss both lips together several times in the “fish mouth” pose.
And that’s it, you’re done! To get this look yourself, be sure to follow the instructions as highlighted in the video above.
