They may be just sisters-in-law, but Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were twinning hard at Prince Charles’s 70th birthday party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. The Duchesses looked stunning with near matching updos and large drop earrings.

Kate and William were the first to arrive after a day of events including charity work at a hostel and the opening of a tech centre nearby. The Queen herself hosted the event to honour her son and Kate’s father-in-law Prince Charles. Kate chose a one-shouldered ruffled pink gown for the occasion, but unless you were among the elite attendees you’ll have to settle for these in-vehicle shots photographers were able to capture as the couples pulled in. (It is nice to know they can get done up and celebrate without having cameras going off in their faces at all times.)

Kate’s hair was worn up in a voluminous updo, complemented by the same gorgeous pair of tear-shaped drop earrings she previously wore to the BAFTAs in 2017.

Meghan and Prince Harry weren’t far behind. The Duchess of Sussex was spotted riding in the front seat wearing some sort of black dress with white details (again, the through-the-car-window shots don’t give you much to work with), while Harry drove dressed in a black tuxedo to match his brother’s. Like Kate, the soon-to-be-mom Meghan wore her hair in a striking updo. From her ears hung a pair of chandelier diamond earrings, the same she recently sported in Fiji.

There are a lot of rules that come with being married to a prince, and Markle, the newest former non-Royal to join the family, has been brought up to speed with seeming ease. Earlier this week, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted with a subtle new haircut, which is likely a trick pulled from Princess Diana’s and subsequently Kate’s playbook: make a series of small beauty changes over time to avoid sending the world into a new-haircut tizzy and distracting them from the Royal fam’s far more important philanthropic duties.

It’s tempting to pit the two sisters against each other in a Who Wore It Best contest, but something tells us that wouldn’t be appropriate behavior when dealing with Duchesses. Let’s just say they both looks stunning and leave it at that.
