Mother’s Day never fails to fill our hearts with feel-good tales of maternal love. And this year was no different.
Among those making our hearts swell on the heels of Mother’s Day is Kate Hudson, who took to the mic to sing an emotionally charged ode to her mama, Goldie Hawn, over the weekend. The actress uploaded the vid, which shows off her impressive vocals, to Instagram. Because, if it isn’t on the ‘Gram, it didn’t really happen.
Hudson went with Nothing Compares 2 U, which was written by Prince even though most people associate it with Sinead O’Connor. The number was doubly poignant, if a bit melancholic, what with the artist’s recent passing, but was ultimately well selected and well executed.
Seriously, can we just talk about Hudson’s pipes for a moment? Honestly, who knew? She sounds like an absolute pro! So she’s got a minor case of the ‘What Do I Do With My Hands?’, but she still kills it. We’re so impressed.
And Kate’s Insta followers agree. The post has over 70,000 likes and 3,500 comments, most of which summarize how we’re currently feeling about this: “How does 1 person end up with soooo much talent!!??! WOW AMAZING!” But seriously, how!? Our singing and acting skills certainly don’t compare.
Most importantly, though, the iconic song title she chose to belt out couldn’t be more true. Nothing does compare to you, Mums of the world! It’s just that the majority of us show our love and appreciation with flowers, and spa days, and handmade cards rather than epic on-stage performances.
