Let’s face it: Kate Hudson is pretty freaking fabulous. She starred in not one, but two of my all-time favourite movies (Almost Famous and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), she runs her own fitness line (Fabletics), and she’s got a way cool mom and stepdad (Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell).
So when the actress chopped all of her hair off last summer and sported an epic buzzcut for her role in Sister, everyone took notice. Especially in an era of extensions, hair thickening agents and wavy tresses. It was a bold, memorable look that instantly highlighted Hudson’s pretty facial features and toned bod.
That’s why it isn’t really surprising that Hudson doesn’t regret going for the ‘do, even though she’s letting it grow back now. In fact, it’s a style she recommends all women try at least once in their lifetime.
“There’s something so liberating about it,” she said on the talk show Lorraine in London recently. “I really loved it; I actually miss it… I honestly think that a woman in her life at one point needs to just chop it all off.”
Yeah… we don’t all look like Hudson, and not everyone can pull off the look. But it is interesting to think about how freeing a buzzcut would be. Think about how much time and money you’d save on hairstyling and products alone. Or how much confidence it could evoke.
In fact, there’s definitely a boldness that seems to inherently come with a shaved head. Pink, Millie Bobby Brown, and Cara Delevingne are just some of the short-haired female celebs who send positive messages to fans while oozing self-confidence.
To celebrate #IWD2018, I’m remembering the powerful women I met while filming and #DoYouStories with @PUMA. We covered bullying, self-defense, and self-expression through the arts. It’s time for season two, what women’s empowerment topics or amazing women do you want us to cover? Let me know in the comments below
Actually, now that I think about it, maybe every woman could pull off the look. Especially those who are willing to radiate beauty and self-love from within.
