We all know Halloween is scary, and we all know Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem The Raven is scary. Put them together and add in fears and tensions surrounding the upcoming American election and you’ve got yourself a huge spooktacular. That’s what Saturday Night Live was banking on this weekend when it had Jim Carrey’s Joe Biden read a haunting version of The Raven that reminded everybody: hey, this election is by no means a sure thing for either side. And to illustrate that point, Kate McKinnon brought back her famous Hillary Clinton impersonation. Politics, but make it spooky!“Once upon a midnight dreary, while Trump retweetd Q-anon theories, and riffled through his Adderall drawer,” Jim Carey began, struggling a bit with the poem. “I was readying my acceptance speech when something stopped me with a screech; it was a knock upon my chamber door… ‘twas someone still a little sore.” That's when Kate’s Hillary burst in wearing her true blue power suit (and a Dracula cape because… Halloween) and waving her signature wave before adding to the poem.“Quoth the Clinton…”“We lost before!”Throughout the cold open, political pundits and theorists reminded former VP Joe Biden that though polls suggest this election is in the bag, they assured Secretary Clinton the very same four years ago. Although Kate’s Hillary did point out a clear advantage Joe Biden has—"you’re not a woman, you’re a man!"—because it seems our sexist society is still not willing at accept a woman as President. It’s hurts because it’s true. This is the first time Kate has whipped out her Hillary impersonation since the first SNL after the 2016 election, when she sat in character at a grand piano during the cold open and sang “Hallelujuah.” Canadian legend Leonard Cohen had just passed that week, so meshing the two was SNL’s attempt at a swan song. Her return is something Twitter could not get enough of. The John Mulaney-hosted episode contained other big moments, like Weekend Update host Colin Jost debuting his wedding ring after clandestinely marrying Scarlett Johansson the previous weekend. They’re JOST married! Get it?!ScarJo and CoJo (that’s his name and we’re sticking to it) showed some serious affection on SNL the last time she hosted, so we were delighted to see Weekend Update cohost Michael Che give them a little lighthearted ribbing about the secret ceremony.[video_embed id='2067392']RELATED: Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost join in a charitable trend for the wedding reveal [/video_embed]“I don't know what's gonna happen with this election, the tension is just killing me," Che said to Jost next to him. "I don't know what this world's gonna be after Tuesday. I may never see you again, Colin. I mean, we might both get drafted in the race wars. It's not fair, you just married Scarlett Johansson. And I just bought an electric bike, we're both doing equally great." Yeah Michael, those two things are for sure equal. The show also announced on social media right before the episode that Dave Chappelle will host the November 7 episode next week—the first AFTER the election results have come in. That will be an interesting challenge for Dave and the SNL writers, no matter which way the election goes. It also is becoming a bit of a tradition, as he hosted SNL after the 2016 election as well. No matter what happens in the United States tomorrow, at least we can look forward to some guaranteed laughs next weekend.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Husky is totally unimpressed after being asked to get off chair [/video_embed]
