You either love the Duchess of Cambridge or you loathe her. Same goes for her fashion sense. Around these parts, we kind of dig her. She’s a cool mom, upped her royal duties game and is thrifty with her clothes. Or so we thought.
According to the Daily Mail, Kate’s new appreciation for high-end designer duds translates to £174,000 ($287,500) spent this year. That’s four times her £43,000 ($71,000) wardrobe in 2015. Four. Times.
The clothes she wore during the Cambridges’ trip to Canada amounted to £62,000 ($102,000) and included dresses by Dolce & Gabbana, Jenny Packham and Preen. And her wardrobe for the royals’ tour of India and Bhutan came in at £35,000 ($58,000).
We suppose the troubling part in all this is that for some reason, in the royal hierarchy’s financial structure, Prince Charles is the one who pays for all Kate’s clothes and, in turn, that money comes from taxpayers. Which might explain the haters.
But to all those who complained about her lack of style over the years, this is how she’s upped her game. Let’s not forget that whenever Kate wears something, it usually sells out pretty fast. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that some designers surely must have sent Kate the clothes for free. Many are quick to note Kate’s outfit repeats, so who’s to say she’s not going to do that with some of her designer labels in the future? Now if she just gave away all the nude heels in her closet (which by the look of recent appearances, she already may have), we’d love her even more.
