For years, the feud between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry roared on, and after a while it was almost hard to remember what they were actually fighting about. Thankfully, the two singers made amends — but it wasn’t all hamburgers and fries and chocolate chip cookies. It actually took a little work but, hey, some people are worth the effort.
Perry was interviewed on KIIS 1065’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show on Tuesday and described how her reconciliation with Swift “was a process” that began with Katy sending Taylor a literal olive branch and apology note for her “part in all of it,” ahead of Tay’s Reputation tour. “I just thought, you know, she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support,” explained Perry. “And truly, as I was finishing mine, I realized how much we have in common. And maybe there’s only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from, and that we should celebrate our commonality and our friendship and to be able to be there for each other.”
There was little communication after Katy’s peace offering but several months later, after seeing her at different Oscar parties, Perry decided to step it up and approach her like a big girl and say, “‘Hey, you know, it’s been a long time, and I think we’ve grown up a little bit. And I just wanted to say I’m sorry, and that I’m really here for you, and that I love you and, you know, I hope that we can be friends in the future.'” Slowly but surely, the two women began “talking a little bit” and “trusting each other” more.
Once Swift got her hands on Perry’s number, they began texting, and eventually agreed to sit down and have a talk. And included some sweet treats.
“She invited me over to her house, and she made me some cookies,” she said. “And she actually makes those cookies, and they’re actually so delicious. And I brought them home.” But the only way Katy was going over to Tay’s house was if she could hold Taylor’s new cat, Benjamin Button.
The war is now over and Katy appeared as one of the many glorious cameos in Taylor’s video for “You Need to Calm Down.” The two coming together is exactly what fans could’ve hoped for.
As far as their relationship is now? “I can trust her and she can trust me,” Perry said. “And we’ll see each other in the halls of the music industry and not avoid each other and we’ll embrace. And I think it’s amazing that we have this opportunity to change, and I just hope that other people can learn from it, too.” So basically, all these two needed to do was grow up a bit to know it’s always a little better and easier to support and lift one another than try and tear others down. You hearing that, Kimye?
