On April Fool’s Day, Katy Perry shared a somewhat unflattering throwback photo of her working at a computer wearing a sports bra and a mop of a hairdo, captioning it “I’m proud to announce the cover for my 4th album!” before revealing this as a prank lower down in the text. We got a good giggle out of this:

The post, while pretty funny, was a far cry from the norm–usually the 32-year-old star’s Instagram images show her all done up and looking like a dime. This one, however, displayed her more human side. Then, a few days later she posted another not-so-flattering image of her getting a jaw massage while on a video call. Also hilarious and also revealing of her human qualities.

But that was enough. One can only take so much self deprecation before some form of affirmation is required. So, after having stacked up two goofy looking photos on her account, Perry changed directions and aimed for a confidence boost. The best way to give the ego the old shot in the arm when you’re an A-Lister? Search your name plus the word “hot,” naturally. Perry did just that and took a screen grab of the first image she found for her account.

And just like that, boom! Confidence bolstered. But we know what you’re thinking: “I’m not a celebrity and I don’t have any ‘hot’ photos of myself!” Surely you have a snap from a wedding or a birthday party when you were all dolled up and looking real fine. Or what about that image on your social media feed that received a whole bunch of likes and comments (even from your former high school flame)? Or maybe even that degree you framed then stashed in the basement. Now that’s hot.

Whatever you come up with, save it somewhere and remind yourself often, says Katy. In fact, go look at it right now. Give it a long and hard look to remember just how freaking fantastic you are. Is it narcissism or confidence? If Katy Perry can do it, so can we.
