It’s 2019 and everything old is new again, including (apparently) aspiring rock duo “Bill S. Preston, Esq.” and “Ted Theodore Logan.” That’s right, Bill and Ted are back for a third adventure, 29 years after their last one (which turned into more of a Bogus Journey, if you ask us).
In a video released March 20, Alex Winter (Bill) and Keanu Reeves (Ted) announced to fans that they’ll reprise their famous (infamous?) roles in Bill & Ted Face the Music, set to finally hit theatres next summer.
The actors returned to their signature back-and-forth style to make the announcement from the Hollywood Bowl and thanked fans for making the third installment of the series happen.
“It’s all because of you guys so we owe you a huge debt of gratitude and we wanted to say, ‘Thank you,'” Winter said. “And be excellent.”
News of a third Bill & Ted movie was announced last May after the two leads reunited for an Entertainment Weekly feature and teased that there might be another adventure in the works. The new movie will reportedly trace the misadventures of the time-traveling BFFs, now middle-aged, as they continue to try to make it big in Rock ‘n’ Roll.
“[Bill and Ted] set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it,” EW writes of the plot. “Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends.” The studio has yet to announce any additional cast other than William Sadler who will reprise his role as the Grim Reaper from the second film.
Bill & Ted Face the Music sees the return of writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who penned both the 1989 original, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and its 1991 sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, RED 2) is set to direct.
The short 30-seconds of reunited Alex and Keanu were enough to send fans into a frenzy. Even the dictionary is excited for excellence!
We need Bill and Ted now more than ever. “Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes!!!” 🤟🏻🎸
