For seven seasons on the hit Shonda Rhimes show Scandal, fans shipped the love affair between Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, and the President of the US of A (#Olitz4Eva). As it turns out, future-prez-hopeful Kanye West carries a torch for Kerry as well, as demonstrated in his 2018 album ye where he not only namedrops the famous actress, but gets pretty suggestive about her. On Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel welcomed Kerry to his show and asked about the lyrics and her relationship with Yeezy and if Kerry knew about the thirsty shout-out. Turns out she definitely did because she woke up to an aggressively vibrating phone the morning after."I did not get a head's-up," she explained after Jimmy performed a dramatic reading of the lines in question. "We are... friend-ly. We're not really friends but we have a lot of friends in common." She went on to add that since the two share initials, she sometimes accidentally gets some texts meant for the rapper.“Actually, about once a year—I think a lot of people have us programmed into their phones as 'KW'—so I'll get a text like once a year where I'm like, 'That's... not for me,'" she said. "This year if it happens, it will be something very pious," she added, referring to Kanye's recent foray into gospel music with the Jesus is King album and his Sunday Services in California, which she admitted she'd love to attend sometime. Naturally Jimmy had to prod her a little bit more on that.
“Will you vote for him in 2024, you know he’s running for president?” he asked. Kanye recently reminded everyone at the Fast Company Innovation Festival that he's still planning presidential run. After a bit of a pregnant pause, Kerry replied, “I’d like to go to the Service first.”*Mic drop*Speaking of running for President, it’s fitting that her last name is Washington because she waded into a bit of a political discussion when talking about the famous guests who attended her Broadway show American Son. She told Jimmy she never wanted to know when a famous person or friend was coming, but there are some people you can't help but know are there. For example when the first lady came.“Melania Trump came to the show?” Jimmy asked?Quick as lightening, Kerry shook her head, “Nooooooo,” as she gave the audience a knowing look. “When the First Lady came," she continued. "When Michelle Obama came,” she enunciated clearly with a toss of her hair. Dang. If Kerry had a cup of tea in her hands, this is the moment when she would have sipped it.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Kerry Washington shares why ‘American Son’ is so important to her[/video_embed]
