Kerry Washington made be an award-winning actor, but she’s also a regular parent who wants to share every cute pic of her three kids with the world. In her upcoming interview with Willie Geist on
Sunday Today, Washington reveals her trick for not over-exposing her children. It’s a secret Instagram account. Sneaky and brilliant. Olivia Pope would approve.
People shared an exclusive excerpt from the interview that is set to air on Sunday, with Washington speaking about maintaining the privacy of her kids she shares with husband Nnamdi Asomugha, three-year-old Caleb, five-year-old Isabelle, and Asomugha’s 13-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. “I have moments where I take pictures or videos of one of my three amazing kids and I wanna post it online, and I tend to just send it to my parents or my shrink instead,” says Washington. “I’m like, ‘My kids are so cute and I don’t wanna post about them, so look at how cute they are!’”Washington admitted that in order to satisfy her parental craving for sharing images and videos of her children, she has set up a private social media channel that she only shares with her inner circle. “I have a private Instagram for my shrink and he loves it!” says Washington, who jokes “It’s not great when I get parenting feedback, incidentally, based on something he heard me [say] in the background of the video.”Washington and Asomugha have been notoriously tight-lipped about their relationship and their children, with virtually no pictures of the couple’s family available online. Even Washington and Asomugha, an actor and former NFL player, are rarely spotted together on the red carpet. A testament to their commitment to maintaining their children’s privacy, Washington has previously spoken about motherhood, but in more general terms. “I love being with my family,” Washington told
Marie Claire in 2018. “My days off look like homework, reading and watching stuff. Just hanging out, doing things we love to do.”Washington did recently sneak one family member onto her public page when her dad made a cameo in her upcoming series
Little Fires Everywhere. Mr. Washington is coming for that Emmy.
The couple’s decision to not have their children on social media is in stark contrast to many celebrity parents, including singers like
Pink and Jessica Simpson, who often find themselves having to defend their parenting decisions and being criticized for overexposing their kids.As for Washington’s public Instagram page, there’s still lots of cute and beautiful content to get excited about. Washington recently teamed up with Michelle Obama to help register voters across the US in anticipation of the 2020 Presidential Election and
shared a video about their work. Plus, there are posts about things like
dogs and
OOTD and snaps of Washington hanging with her friends, but in this case the outfits are worn on the TIFF red carpet and the friends are
Reese Witherspoon and
Idris Elba. So, kinda relatable.
