Khloe Kardashian defended her sister Kim Kardashian's surprise tropical birthday trip during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (weekdays at 3pET on CTV) on Thursday. Khloe addressed the criticism that Kim's been receiving after organizing the mystery destination trip for around 25 people. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star told DeGeneres that nobody knew where they were going and they didn't find out the destination until they got on the lavish private plane. She said that they only knew they were going somewhere tropical and they were told to bring three fancy outfits for dinners (rich people problems).Keeping the destination top-secret, Khloe told DeGeneres that they went to New Jersey and stayed at the Jersey Shore before diving into the backlash Kim has been receiving for talking about the trip on social media.
Khloe said that she hasn't heard a lot about the situation but she did hear that people were upset. Safe to say that Khloe must be avoiding Instagram and Twitter because that seems to be one of the only things people are talking about at the moment."This year is a frustrating year—I get it," she said. "I think there's so many frustrations going on for everybody, but also it's her 40th and this is something that she really wanted to do. For us, it was such a nice thing."Khloe explained that they took safety precautions but she also said that the trip was extremely beneficial for the resort and workers that hosted the large group of family and friends. "Being there and [seeing] how grateful everybody was for the tourism aspect of it and how so many people said that we were their first party or guest that they've had in months and what it's done for them to be able to pay their bills or to do stuff for their family," she said. "Just hearing those messages when we were there—we felt really good."

The backlash regarding the extravagant trip began on Tuesday after Kim shared photos of her birthday event with a caption that she seemed to think would soften the fact that she basically broke every COVID-19 rule that we've all been following for months.“There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter. For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped [sic] me into the woman I am today,” Kim wrote. “Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.”[video_embed id='2064913']RELATED: Kim Kardashian under fire after posting private island pictures during pandemic [/video_embed]Many people on Twitter took part of Kim's caption and turned it into a viral sensation by reposting the same phrase to mock the reality star with photos from Jersey Shore, Love Island, the Oscar-winning film Parasite and even the infamous Fyre Festival. If you haven't seen it yet, the viral phrase was: "After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time." After all of the drama, the Skims creator decided to turn the attention she was receiving into... some type of good? “Now that I have your attention …” she wrote. “This a reminder to VOTE. 6 days.”Watch The Ellen DeGeneres Show weekdays at 3pET on CTV and Keeping Up With the Kardashians Thursdays at 8pET on E!.
