Whoever said dreams don’t come true has never heard of Carter Wilkerson. The teenager from Reno, Nevada loves Wendy’s, specifically their chicken nuggets, and asked the fast food chain a simple question via Twitter: “How many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?” And Wendy’s responded with what seemed like an unattainable mission, which Wilkerson was more than happy to accept.

Wilkerson wasn’t about to give up the opportunity for a year’s supply of ‘nuggs.’ In less than a month, his tweet was competing with Ellen DeGeneres’ for most retweeted tweet ever, a record she set during the 2014 Academy Awards.

Wendy’s got in on the action, because they’re awesome like that, and promised to donate $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption if Wilkerson broke Ellen’s record.

Things started getting suspenseful, and with her selfie record being threatened, DeGeneres tried to bribe Wilkerson with a giant TV and a year’s supply of Ellen underwear, but to no avail, despite help from Bradley Cooper and Ellen’s underhanded shenanigans. Ellen was dethroned, and it was all thanks to #NuggsForCarter.

No dream is ever too big.

Although Wilkerson didn’t quite reach 18 million, Wendy’s rewarded him with free nuggets anyway, along with the best certificate of all time.

Wilkerson might have scored a year’s worth of chicken nuggets, but the real winner here is Wendy’s. Whoever runs their social media department is basically a genius and deserves a medal or a cool AF certificate like Wilkerson’s.

The moral of the story here, people, is to follow your dreams. If you want something bad enough, just work at it and it can be yours. Especially if it’s free food. (Though we’re still not sure why he didn’t ask for their strips. Those bad boys are delish.)
