There’s nothing quite like a kid’s reaction to seeing a large animal for the first time.

The curiosity, the whimsical look on their faces, the utter excitement–there’s just something magical about it. Fortunately, Montrealer David Freiheit captured that moment for us all to enjoy.

It all started when he took his two young daughters to meet elk for the first time in Parc Omega, a drive-through safari park located about 140 kilometres west of Montreal. The park offers bags of carrots for sale to guests, who can then use them to feed various animals within the park. So when Freiheit’s vehicle pulls up alongside a bull elk, the girls’ faces light up as the animal sticks its giant head in the window.

“That’s a cow,” she yells.

Er, not exactly. But still adorable.

You can check out the cute moment in the video above.
