Kanye West just called the world and the Internet, as a whole, “f*cking ugly.” But we doubt this is what he was talking about.

He and his wife, Kim Kardashian, are facing a poopstorm on Twitter after photos of their just-turned one-year-old daughter surfaced online. See, little North was wearing diamond studs — and people were not happy. They have received backlash a-plenty from people who believe North is too young for permanent ear holes and are absolutely outraged that the baby’s little lobes are pierced.

The piercing has sparked a debate on social media as to whether or not a one-year-old is too young. Honestly, I don’t get the big deal. Sometimes it’s a cultural thing, for others it’s purely preference. I’ve seen babies as young as three months getting pierced and didn’t see what all the fuss was about. Did she sob like Oprah? Hell, yeah. And I’ve also seen a 10-year-old crying her face off. I get why some parents want it done early because the baby won’t remember the pain after a few (OK, several) minutes. But I also get parents who wait for their kids to be of the age where they can ask for it themselves. Either way, celebrity or non-celeb, Kim and Kanye are the parents. Whatever they want for their daughter goes. But talk to us again in three years when North shows up in Suri heels and a belly piercing.
