Keeping up with Kim Kardashian is a tough job nowadays. In her interview with New York Magazine's The Cut, the reality star and business maven (among so many other things) ran the gamut of topics but it was when she looked back at her not-so-humble beginnings that showed something close to self-reflection.While many people would stress about having their entire life filmed, KKW does not. "I've never regretted it," she said to the mag, one of six high-profile figures that were featured as a part of a look back at the decade that was. "I've always felt like I'm so grateful to have all of those memories on-camera. But she did admit that those trips down memory lane aren't all wonderful and amazing."I will look back and think, 'Oh my God, what was I wearing? Why is my makeup like that?'" she said. "But I can sit back and laugh and think it's funny to see how much I cared and me wanting to be famous so badly. I can laugh at it now: Oh my God, I was desperate!"

The moment she made it

The KKW Beauty mogul also recalled how she, and her momager Kris Jenner, had their sights set on a fragrance, a la Elizabeth Taylor, the first of which came out in 2010. But when trying to remember when it was her endorsement actually meant something, just like back then, Kim called on her mom to get some clarification. Naturally Kris came through."I remember it like it was yesterday. We were at the Super Bowl in Miami in 2010," said Jenner from the phone when Kim called her mid-interview. "[W]e couldn’t leave the space without literally 12 GI Joe guys, and they all were armed with rifles. Then we went to the field and it was the craziest thing. We saw huge stars all around us, and nobody needed the kind of security we did. And that’s when we knew that our lives had really changed."
For Kim, however, the impact of her fame hit her in Dubai around the same year. She was at an event at a milkshake shop and in her estimation "250,000 people showed up to the Dubai mall. I had never seen anything like it before. We had to sneak out the back. My mom and I looked at each other — because I made her come with me — and we were like, 'Holy sh*t. What is going on? A milkshake place?'" (The magazine added that the reported number was closer to 3, 000 people but the point stands.)As far as fame or fortune go, it's a no-brainer for Kardashian. "It's always been about working hard and making money. I never didn't work hard. I had a job all through high school, always worked and was always proud to work, whether in a clothing store or for my dad. I never wanted an easy ride or a free ticket. We grew up with privilege, but it was never handed to us."Which is reflected in why Kim is where she's at now. She doesn't seem like the kind of person who can sit still for very long so if she has to work hard, she's willing to put in the time. But she reveals there was a learning curve.

"When you first come in the game, you hire a publicist, and after a couple of years, they tell you you've got to get into doing charity work," she recalled, sharing how surprised she was to learn that that's how it works. "I thought it was all real! I thought you picked what you really love to do, and then figure that out as you get older and your life takes you there. They were like, 'Nope. You gotta find a cause, and you gotta stick with it.'"Now, married to Kanye West and with four kids together, she realized what really matters most to her: prison reform. "I want my children to have a fair life. And I do believe that race does play a huge role in the criminal-justice system, if you look at all the numbers." That's when she decided she wanted to attend law school and help people.

And having sit-downs and real meetings at the White House, meetings that mattered, where significant change was on the table helped to prove that Kim Kardashian West actually does have political influence in the U.S. "I'm just as surprised as everyone else," she admitted about her political power. But don't expect her to act like the more mature Kim isn't having any fun at all. "I enjoy my life. Someone said to me the other day, 'What is it like being you?' It's awesome."[video_embed id='1822569']RELATED: Kim Kardashian says she’ll tone down her sexy looks[/video_embed]
