At this point, Kim Kardashian is a Met Gala veteran, attending six times since 2013 and confidently parading down the carpet every single time. While it’s easy for us to sit back and pick apart every aspect of every look, Kim gave us a rare reminder ahead of the 2019 gala that she’s actually a human with insecurities and emotions just like the rest of us. In her Instagram story, the reality star offered a little insight into how she felt about her outfit and the circumstances leading up to each of her six Met appearances.
First, Kim revealed that she actually felt really insecure about walking the carpet pregnant with North in that floral Givenchy bodycon gown in 2013. She was Kanye’s plus-one and she really felt that nobody wanted her there. Aw, Kim!
The next year, the Kardashian said she was actually feeling her Anna Wintour-approved look and was excited that she got an invite of her own. There’s the Kim we know.
It sounds like 2015 was really Kim’s year since she got to be more involved in the styling process and felt super confident. She also revealed that she was trying to hide her pregnancy with Saint, which it looks like she accomplished just fine.
On the 2016 “Manus x Machina” look, Kim acknowledged that the eyebrow bleaching was a mistake (for which the internet mercilessly roasted her at the time) and got real about insecurities she felt about her weight. Seems she really likes a blue-eyed Kanye though.
Who would have thought Kim Kardashian would be nervous to walk a carpet alone! Apparently behind that cool and collected exterior in 2017, there was a woman who just really didn’t want to go it alone. We can all relate.
After going on that journey with Kim, we’re really glad she felt super confident and beautiful in her 2018 look. We’re not usually rooting for Kim to show more swagger, because she always seems to be radiating it, but it’s important to remember every once in a while that the celebs we criticize and admire are just people trying their best too.
Thanks for sharing, Kim!
