Thanks to Kim Kardashian West, one of the first inmates released as part of the U.S. federal sentencing reforms can breathe a sigh of release over his housing concerns.
Kardashian West reached out to former convict Matthew Charles on social media after hearing that, since his January 3 release from prison, he was unable to find housing. Charles had served 20 years of a 35-year sentence on nonviolent drug charges and was released as a part the First Step Act that Kim K had previously advocated for.
Charles was interviewed by The Tennessean and revealed he had been denied housing partly becaues of his criminal history. The news got to Kardashian West and on Sunday, Charles shared on his Facebook page that the beauty mogul had offered to help him out.
The financial details are still being worked out with Kardashian West's team but Charles told The Tennessean he is hopeful that he'll find lodging by the end of the week.
"Now, all... I have to do is find the place," he told the USA TODAY NETWORK-Tennessee Monday night.kardashianKim Kardashian Westmatthew charlestrendingU.S. prison reform
