Kourtney turns the big 4-0 on the latest episode of 'KUWTK'

This week’s episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians focused squarely on Kourtney’s big 40^th birthday celebration—the birthday that had been throwing her into an emotional tailspin in the weeks leading up to the milestone age.As all sisters tend to, Kourtney cares about sis Kim's opinion and sought help when it came to picking out the perfect outfit for her big party. You’d think she would have learned not to ask Kim for fashion opinions after their blowout in Japan, but deep down she knows Kim will give her the honest truth even if it comes out with that special kind of cruelty that only sisters can get away with.

Outside the petty sister drama, the episode touched on the inevitable anxiety of getting older—those big birthdays that scare us because they force us to question where we are and what we’ve done with our lives so far. Many people understandably freak out around milestone birthdays, and the Kardashians are possibly even more susceptible when they’ve built their entire brand on being young and pretty. What happens when young is no longer part of your selling point? It’s no surprise Kourtney is feeling all kinds of nerves around a birthday for the first time in her life, when she is hitting the age that Hollywood tends to dismiss women.Kim only reiterated this point when she said in her confessional during the episode that "40 is the most important year—this sets the tone. Are you gonna be old or are you gonna be young?" To be a Kardashian is to remain young and sexually viable always, or else, do you even exist? It will be fascinating to watch as they all get older and grapple with the inevitability of aging.Since Kourtney’s birthday, she's launched lifestyle brand Poosh, which hopefully gives her renewed purpose in life. She recently made headlines as the rare Kardashian to post a body-positive, non-Photoshopped Instagram picture for the lifestyle brand so that's a good start.Once Kim realized how sensitive Kourtney was about her birthday, she surprised her with a vintage Versace dress—as one does—and all was well again between the two.  The party went off with a bang and Kourtney’s anxiety seemed to lift once guests arrived.The episode ended with a look at Kanye’s incredibly successful Sunday Service at Coachella, where the entire family gathered to celebrate the success of the Church of Kanye on Easter Sunday.Talk about being blessed.
