When the anniversary of a loved one’s passing comes along, it’s never an easy time of year—but it must be especially hard when that someone's death was the subject of a global scandal that had the world glued to their TVs and whose impact is still felt today thanks to books, shows and movies that continue to retell the story. While it's easy to forget how the Kardashian name initially came to fame during O.J. Simpson's 1995 murder trial over the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman—patriarch Robert Kardashian served as one of Simpson’s high-profile lawyers and Kris Jenner was friends with Nicole—the week’s episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashian brought it back to the spotlight. On the 25th anniversary of Nicole's passing, Kris looked back at her friend's life with fondness but there was newfound anger bubbling over recent stories that were printed about her and OJ. The Daily Mail claimed that OJ and Kris had an affair and that, due to the size of his manhood, she was left hospitalized. Obviously it’s an over the top claim, but Kris, frustrated to hear these rumours popping up again during such a sensitive time, wanted to put an end to it for once and for all."On the anniversary of Nicole’s death, it’s so tasteless and disgusting," Kris said in the episode. "It’s just lie after lie after lie after lie."In the past, rumours have circulated that Khloe was actually OJ’s daughter (along with other men, since Kris did admit to having an affair when she was married to Robert), so it only makes sense she would want to make it crystal clear that she never hooked up with OJ. She had her lawyers threaten to sue the Daily Mail and they pulled the story, but that wasn’t the end of this arc on KUWTK.
Turns out, OJ himself posted a video on Twitter denying that anything ever happened between the two, setting the record straight that he is definitely not Khloe’s father. Kris was incredibly happy that he took time to clear that rumour up, and—for a family that has made it clear they believe OJ killed Nicole—they were kind and appreciative when he reached out to Kim’s bestie, Johnathan Cheban, when they both happened to be at the same restaurant. Simpson wanted to wish them well and let them know he is very proud of the girls and everything they’ve accomplished over the years while he was in prison. Maybe it’s just us, but the whole thing felt a bit hypocritical. While it was fair for them to appreciate that OJ cleared up the gossip, it felt disingenuous  to act all warm and fuzzy toward him for his “kindness” in the same episode where they claimed to be honouring Nicole’s life.Watch Keeping up With the Kardashians Sunday nights at 9pmET on E!
