What’s going on with Lady Gaga’s Twitter account? The Grammy and Oscar winner has been posting some controversial remarks lately, with fans left baffled about the hidden messages in Mother Monster’s recent statements. Or, it’s all a joke and the hidden message is sarcasm. It’s very difficult to tell with Twitter.

Gaga’s latest head scratcher was posted on Monday, with the singer tweeting that she doesn’t remember her 2013 album ARTPOP, which included the singles “Applause,” “Do What U Want,” “Venus” and “G.U.Y.”

The album debuted at number one on the Billboard chart and sold 2.3 million copies worldwide, making enough of an impact that it’s worth a memory or two. Although ARTPOP is Gaga’s least successful album, it’s still a Lady Gaga album and therefore pretty successful. Gaga, what’s going on? Was she so busy during the recording of the album that it now feels like a blur? Is she trying to forget about the fact the ARTPOP included a duet with R. Kelly, a song that’s she’s since removed from streaming services? Or maybe she doesn’t want to think about all the taxes that had to be paid on the $83 million box office that came with the ARTPOP Tour? No surprise, fans are shook about her musical blind spot.

Gaga’s lapse in memory is the latest in a series of odd Twitter moments that are leaving fans divided. Has the singer hired a new social media manager? Or fired her old one? Is Gaga embarking on a new artistic phase and trying out different alter egos? We’re not sure. We’re also not sure why one of the greatest vocalists of a generation would tweet this.

Gaga, no! From the shocking to the confusing comes Gaga’s list of her hobbies, which aren’t hobbies, at least not if you’re Gaga. Is this a new abstract art phase that we don’t get? We have questions.

The tweet that received the swiftest backlash was Lady Gaga’s comment that ‘fame is prison.’ She likely meant the statement as a metaphor, but for those who have experienced prison or struggled with accessing basic amenities, the comment understandably struck a nerve.

Many people were quick to disagree with Gaga, including Amanda Knox, who was famously acquitted after serving time for the murder of her roommate.

Knox was quick to follow-up her initial tweet with a message of support for Gaga, writing “For the record, s’all love to @ladygaga. The psychological pain of living under obsessive scrutiny is real AF.” Other followers were not yet ready to give Gaga a pass on her statement.

While many fans are defending Gaga’s tweets as jokes, others are more concerned over the singer’s recent change in tone and voice. This seems like a good time for a Soul Session with Oprah Winfrey.
