To quote RuPaul, reading is fundamental — and the most fundamental book of all time (at least for Mariah Carey fans) is about to hit store shelves. Mariah has finally finished her long-awaited memoir, promised to us pop-music-loving bookworm types back in 2018. In a recent Instagram post, Mariah announced that she and co-writer Michaela Angela Davis have put the final touches on the tome, and her life story is at long last ready to make a splash on bookstore shelves both real and virtual early this fall. The news has got us feeling emotions like it’s 1991 all over again. The memoir, titled The Meaning Of Mariah Carey, is available for preorder now through the singer’s personal website, but mega fans can line up (six feet apart) on September 29 to buy it IRL. The story, says Mariah, will let the public in on “my mishaps, my struggles, my survival and my songs. Unfiltered.” It’s just us and Mariah.

The 2018 announcement that Carey would be penning a memoir came in conjunction with the revelation that the pop queen had been managing a bipolar diagnosis since 2001, and it’s highly likely that her mental health will be a subject that she touches on in the book. Celebrities talking openly about the topic is a powerful thing and has proved in the past to go a long way towards a general increase in acceptance and open conversations (see: Demi Lovato, Chrissy Teigen, Kendrick Lamar, Chirs Evans, and so many more).  “My sincere hope is that you are moved to a new understanding, not only about me, but also about the resilience of the human spirit,” wrote Mariah in her post about the book’s readiness for publication. Now if we could just get our hands on an excerpt from the chapter about Glitter.[video_embed id='6018805199001']Before you go: Mariah Carey is blessing us with an autobiography[/video_embed]
