WARNING: SPOILERS, OBVIOUSLY.
It’s a pretty big statement to claim a TV show changed your life, but in the case of Six Feet Under, we’re comfortable enough to say it. After five seasons of heart-shattering, super-visceral stories on the HBO drama, the series caps off with one of the most emotional finales in TV history.
Just try to hold back your tears as Sia’s Breathe Me starts up and Claire drives away to her new job in New York City.
Even the hardest hearts among us break when we catch a glimpse of Nate’s ghost jogging in Claire’s side-view mirror.
As the song rises and swells, deaths of each major character flash across the screen as she drives through the desert and into her future.
It is simultaneously depressing and uplifting, representative of the show’s theme: death is just another part of life, something that will come eventually to all of us.
And we gotta say, it certainly felt like a death when this show ended.
It’s been 10 years since the finale, Everybody’s Waiting, aired, but it’s like it was yesterday.
Relive the beauty of the final scene of Six Feet Under with us. We recommend watching alone (we’re with you in spirit, we promise), unless you want people to see you’re a blubbering mess.
